GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX INSTRUCTIONS
- Elevate the head of bed frame six to eight inches on blocks/bricks.
- If you smoke, try to quit.
- If you are overweight, try to lose weight.
- Use antacids (Mylanta, Maalox, or Gaviscon) after meals and at bedtime. Dosage is one to two tablespoons up to
seven times a day, one and three hours after each meal and at bedtime.
Dietary Modifications:
- Eat at least three meals a day.
- Do not eat for at least three hours prior to going to bed.
- Do not lie down after eating.
Avoid:
- Fatty foods
- Chocolate
- Alcohol
- Peppermint
- Spearmint
- Citrus juices (orange or grapefruit)
- Tomatoes
- Coffee, caffeinated & decaffeinated
- Other caffeinated beverages
