Sinonasal Anatomy

The anatomy and physiology of the nose and sinuses are wonderfully complex. When working properly, these structures allow us to enjoy the world around us, and are responsible for many important functions, such as breathing and sleeping, smell and taste, phonation and resonance, and protection from inhaled pollutants and microbes, not to mention physical appearance.

It is obviously important to understand the anatomy and physiology of the nose and sinuses in order to understand how to treat problems when they occur. The following links, courtesy of the American Rhinologic Society, provide a great explanation of these topics. We at Capitol ENT encourage you to explore these links and learn more about your condition so that you may be informed and actively involved in your care. Please don′t hesitate to ask your Capitol ENT physician any questions you may have during your visit. That′s what we are here for!
